  • Provenance: Notes:
The Josiah Quincy School opened in 1847, a model public school conceived by renowned educator Horace Mann. In the innovative building, designed by architect Gridley J.F. Bryant, teachers had their own classrooms and students were separated by grade, progressive ideas for the time. In the late 19th Century it also offered evening classes for immigrants. It closed in 1976 and the building now functions as a community center for Boston's Chinatown neighborhood.
