  • Provenance: Notes:
The Massachusetts Charitable Mechanic Association was established in 1795 in Boston, formed to "promote the mechanic arts and extending the practice of benevolence". Founders included tailors, bakers, masons, sailmakers and assorted other tradesmen, notably Paul Revere. Throughout the 19th Century the association organized exhibitions devoted to innovations in the mechanical arts, with the Thirteenth Exhibition occurring in 1878.
