EXCEPTIONAL SCRIMSHAW CLENCHED FIST WALKING STICK

Engraved on walrus ivory throat "Daniel T. Purrinton. Brunswick.". Whale ivory handle carved as fist clenching a serpent, which wraps around the fist and down the wrist. Fist with nicely articulated fingers and serpent with inset glass bead eyes and engraved scales. Mahogany shaft inlaid with whale ivory and mother-of-pearl cap and bells at the top, and whale ivory, baleen and mother-of-pearl diamonds, rectangles and circles. Baleen spacers between the handle, throat and shaft. Whalebone ferrule.
