William Pierce Stubbs, 1842-1909 The three masted schooner "Yale" of New Haven, Connecticut. Unsigned. 22" x 36". Some crazing. The "Yale" was built in Belfast, Maine, by G.W.Cottrell in 1884. Weight 681 tons. Length 163.7 feet. Owned by L.W. & P. Armstrong of New Haven, Conn. Registered in New Haven in 1896. Capt. R.A. Simpson. George Hodgden, Master in 1888. She dragged ashore on Sandy Hook in 1890, and got off. Ran into and sank in a gale off Hatteras in 1899. The crew was saved by schooner "Jose Olaverri". [Illustrated].
