    The whaleship
Uncas of New Bedford is seen here off the Cape of Good Hope. Notable details include the ship and whaleboats, the scars on the whale, and the topography of Table Bay. The Uncas is flying the flag of the Howland agency, who managed her whaling career from 1843 to 1861. Though this scene was published in 1853, after 1849, due to the depletion of the southern right whale, all Uncas 's voyages were to the North Pacific.
