HANDMADE HOLLOW HULL MODEL OF THE SPONGING SCHOONER JOHN B.
Made by Junius Spencer Morgan III (1892-1960), grandson of J.P. Morgan. Like his father and grandfather, Junius Morgan III served as Commodore of the New York Yacht Club. Model fully rigged and fitted, with painted name and port "John B. Nassau N.P.". Initialed and dated on interior hull "J.S.M. 1936". Accompanied by original scale drawings of the model, diary with drawings and notes of rigging and deck details, and a 3" x 4" photograph of the schooner framed with a typed note: "Junius Spencer Morgan, Sailing Model - Bahama's Sponging Schooner 'John B.'. This model was hand carved and built by Commodore Morgan in 1932 from a lines and rigging plan sketched by him of a careened sponging schooner in Nassau in 1927. Loaned by Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Morgan II". Height 56.75". Length 73".
