a trompe l'oeil interpretation of Peale's famous portrait of his brother, "Rubens Peale with a Geranium, 1801", which is in the National Gallery of Art collection. Signed lower right "H. Braginton-Smith".

Condition: Not examined under UV light. In a Victorian frame.

  • Provenance: The Peale family were noted naturalists and the Rembrandt Peale painting captured here is believed to depict the first American-grown geranium.
