    Notes:
In Merchant Sail William Armstrong Fairburn lists 58 vessels with the name "Mary". One, a merchant vessel of 268 tons, was built at Medford, Massachusetts in 1844 by Foster & Taylor for Nathaniel Francis of Boston. The vessel's construction was overseen by her master, Captain Hopner, who commanded her for the three years under Francis's ownership. Records of the ship thereafter differ greatly, but she was captured in a formal ship portrait by Fitz Henry Lane, which is listed in the artist's catalog raisonne.
