Fascinating glimpse into the history of Newport, its famous mansions and the social registers at the turn of the century. Colored frontispiece by Henry Hutt depicts beautifully clad women at a gala. Also includes numerous photographic illustrations and drawings by Edward Stratton Hollway, many with tissue guards. Retains two folding maps in sleeve at rear. Thick Q. Brown cloth with gilt lettering and border. Front with gilt and blue seal of Rhode Island consisting of an anchor, drapery and "Hope" in a banner. Teg. Side and bottom edges deckled. Some pages uncut. Cover loose at front and spine. Some soiling, particularly in early pages, and some off-setting, but text and illustrations are mostly clean and bright.
