PAIR OF IMPORTANT "CARTOON" POLYCHROME WHALE'S TEETH Circa 1850
One tooth depicts two sailors in green shirts smoking pipes. The bearded sailor on the left is saying "Where shall I tell her to write to you, Jack?". The sailor on the right faces front and is saying "Say Sebastopol[?] or Petersburg. We shall be at one or the other by the time....". Captions are in script lettering above the men's heads. Below the writing but above Jack is a rear view of a fused cannon. The other tooth depicts the bearded sailor off with Jack's wife or sweetheart. Lengths 5.25". Includes contemporary wooden bases.

Condition: The caption tooth has a few age cracks, while the second tooth has a small chip from the tip and also has a few age cracks. The teeth are mounted on a contemporary wooden base.
