POLYCHROME SCRIMSHAW WHALEBONE AND WHALE IVORY SWIFT

Turned whale ivory yarn cup, collars and adjustment knobs, the yarn cup and an adjustment knob engraved with vines of red flowers. Simple cylindrical whalebone shaft. C-shaped whalebone clamp inlaid with abalone, tropical wood and metal pins. Adjustment screws also inlaid with metal pins. Whalebone cage. Yarn cup and clamp can be unscrewed.
Length 25". Cage diameter approx. 23".
Condition: Cage with newer ribbons. Some staves have been repaired. One is loose and needs to be re-tied. Adjustment knob with chipping and cracking near hole for screw. Other scattered small chips, including one on clamp and some on adjustment screws. Scattered age lines.
