Provenance: According to Bassam, "The Clown in the bulbous costume may be Lou Jacobs; The clown with the dogs may be Willie Moser; a member of the Chinese troupe of tumblers the Wen Hais is doing the handstand."
Lou Jacobs is one of the most recognizable clowns in circus history, performing for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus for 60 years. He performed in the Auguste style, a silly, clumsy and/or foolish character meant to bring comic relief.
