1) An Essay on Slavery and Abolitionism, With Reference to the Duty of American Females by Catharine E. Beecher (Philadelphia: Henry Perkins, 1837). "Addressed to Miss A.D. Grimke", written as a response to a controversial lecture tour by Angelina Grimke and her sister Sarah. Catharine E. Beecher was the sister of Harriet Beecher Stowe and wrote this prior to the publication of Uncle Tom's Cabin. 16 mo. Original green cloth with gilt title "Miss Beecher on the Slave Question" on cover.

2) The Lincoln Catechism Wherein the Eccentricities & Beauties of Despotism Are Fully Set Forth. A Guide to the Presidential Election of 1864 (N.Y.: J.F. Feeks, 1864). 12 mo. Wraps. Cover and title page text surrounds a caricature of an African American. Significant wear with losses on cover and title page.

3) Letters to the Hon. William Jay, Being a Reply to His 'Inquiry into the American Colonization and American Anti-Slavery Societies' by David M. Reese, M.D. of New York (N.Y.: Leavitt, Lord & Co., 1835). 12 mo. Impressed blue boards with gilt title "Reese's Letters to the Hon. Wm. Jay." on cover.

4) Memoirs of Elleanor Eldridge (Providence: B.T. Albro, 1840). Second edition. Frontispiece portrait of Eldridge holding a broom. Eldridge was a free African American living in Rhode Island, whose father had been granted freedom from slavery for serving in the Revolutionary War. This memoir was published to raise funds for legal expenses she incurred over a real estate dispute. 18 mo. Marbled boards with cloth spine and paper label on spine.

5) The Narrative of Eleazer Sherman, Giving an Account of His Life, Experience, Call to the Ministry of the Gospel, and Travels as Such to the Present Time. Three Volumes in One. (Providence: H.H. Brown, 1832). Some chapters discuss slavery on a Georgia cotton plantation. 16 mo. Full leather.

Condition: Age-typical wear, including toning, foxing, soiling, creasing, uneven edges, etc. Collations not verified. 1) Cover worn. Becoming unhinged at rear. Text block bright. Clipping inscribed "John Brown Francis" pasted down to front endpaper. 2) Poor condition, as noted. 3) Cover with some sunfading, particularly on spine. Toned and foxed throughout, but still very readable. Inscribed "J B Francis" on title page. 5) Covers off but present. 6) Crease marks from where it was folded twice horizontally. May have had wraps that are now missing. Lightly foxed. Boldly inscribed in ink above title "From Robert Hume of Charleston S.C to his old friend JFB Charleston July 1845".

If you plan to pick up your purchases, please call ahead and we'll make every effort to have your items ready. Our physical address is 1483 Route 6A, East Dennis, MA. Pick up of smaller items at our Mystic, CT location is also available with advance notice.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to provide shipping quotes until the invoice had been paid in full.
In house shipping is offered exclusively though UPS. All items are shipped with UPS insurance (max. $50,000). UPS insurance is billed at $2.70 for the first $100 and at $0.90 per hundred afterwards. Eldred's charges a minium $15 handling fee per package plus actual UPS shipping charges.
COLLECTION OF PURCHASES: Delivery or shipping arrangements must be made within seven (7) days from the close of the auction for all purchases. All items must be removed from Eldred's facilities within fourteen (14) days of the end of the auction. All items remaining after fourteen days may be subject to a $5/per item/per day storage fee. No items will be released unless storage fees are paid in full. Items remaining over thirty (30) days from the close of the auction may be sold for the buyer's account minus auction and storage fees.
